Green waste recycling is coming to Farmington through a partnership between Farmington City and the Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District (WIWMD). The program diverts organic material from the landfill, converting it into wood chips and compost — reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting ecosystems, and preserving Davis County’s rapidly diminishing landfill space. For a full list of accepted materials, click here.
Green Waste collection runs April through November, on the same day as regular garbage pickup. From December through March, the green cart may be used for regular household garbage. Each cart includes detailed participation instructions. Residents unsure of their collection day can use the interactive garbage and recycling map.
Cart Delivery Status Carts have been delivered to homes with Monday, Tuesday, and Friday garbage days — the opt-out period for these homes has closed. Delivery to Wednesday garbage day homes is currently underway, with Thursday garbage day homes receiving carts in the first week of June.
Cost The monthly fee is $9.70, which will appear on utility invoices beginning in June 2026 for May’s services. Depending on when you received your can, your billing may start later.
Opting Out Residents who do not wish to participate must submit a written opt-out request within 30 days of cart delivery. The cart must be empty to be removed.
The opt-out period has closed for homes with Monday, Tuesday, and Friday garbage days.
