
π« Open Burning Restrictions in Effect for Farmington and Fruit Heights π
As we enter the warmer months, the Farmington Fire Department would like to remind residents of Farmington and Fruit Heights about important regulations surrounding open burning. These rules are in place to protect lives, property, and the beautiful environment we all enjoy.
π₯ Burning Prohibited: Farmington City Ordinance 7-3-080
According to Farmington City Ordinance 7-3-080, it is unlawful to burn garbage, commercial solid waste, manure, or other refuse, rubbish, or trash in the open air unless specifically allowed by state regulations or Davis County health and burning ordinances.
From June 1 through October 15, unauthorized outdoor fires are strictly prohibited within a designated high-risk fire area in eastern Farmington. This area includes neighborhoods and properties east of a detailed demarcation line established in the ordinance. (For a full description of the boundary, see Section B of Ordinance 7-3-080.)
β Authorized Outdoor Fires
The following types of outdoor fires are allowed but only with proper authorization from the Farmington Fire Department:
- Outdoor Barbecue Units β Gas and charcoal grills are permitted and encouraged to be used safely.
- Recreational Fires β Must be in a residential firepit, with any combustible material located at least 30 feet from the edge of the firepit. A burn permit is required.
- Agricultural or Horticultural Burns β Permitted for:
- Fruit orchards with 25 or more trees on a 2-acre parcel
- Cultivated agricultural land of 2 or more acres These burns must be contained, monitored at all times, and authorized in advance.

If your burn qualifies under one of the above exemptions:

Burning without following this process is a violation of city ordinance and may result in enforcement action.
