Green waste recycling is coming to Farmington, marking the launch of a long‑anticipated program developed through collaboration between Farmington City and the Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District (WIWMD). WIWMD is a Utah special service district that provides sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally sound solid waste management for most of Davis County and Morgan County.
This initiative supports a healthier environment by diverting green waste from the landfill and converting it into useful products such as wood chips and compost. Recycling green waste helps protect ecosystems, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, preserves rapidly diminishing landfill space in Davis County, and contributes to local job creation.
During April and May, residents will receive a green waste cart to recycle organic materials. Green Waste collection begins the first full week of April 2026 and continues through November. From December through March, the green cart may be used for regular household garbage. Each cart will be delivered with detailed instructions to ensure that residents have all the necessary information to participate successfully.
The monthly cost for green waste recycling is $9.70. This charge will appear on utility invoices beginning
in May 2026. Green waste will be collected on the same day as regular garbage service.
Residents who are unsure of their collection day may view the interactive garbage and recycling map.
Participation in the green waste recycling program is optional.
